LE382 $21.00 The Japanese, who have low rates of breast and prostate cancer, consume daily 20-80 mg of genistein, a phytochemical almost entirely derived from soybeans. But in the United States, the daily dietary intake of genistein is only 1 to 5 mg. When Japanese women move to the United States and consume the standard American diet, their risk of breast cancer increases dramatically. Previously, doctors thought that this was because of the high fat content of the western diet, but new studies fail to show a significant link between dietary fat and breast cancer risk. Some researchers now think that the increase in breast cancer results from a diet that is deficient in soy isoflavones. Genistein and other soy components provide anticancer protection by the following mechanisms:
The following forms of cancer have been shown to respond favorably to soy adjuvant therapy:
Other Medical Benefits of Soy According to published studies, the daily intake of sufficient soy isoflavones may:
Dr. Sulistiyani of the Primate Research Center at Bogor Agricultural University in Indonesia stated that considering the increased risk of breast cancer and uterine cancer in women using estrogen drugs, one alternative is to take phytoestrogens, such as genistein, which have been shown to protect the heart against cardiovascular disease. In studies using Cynomolgus female monkeys who had their ovaries removed to simulate postmenopausal women, it was shown that genistein inhibited LDL (the harmful form of cholesterol) oxidation by 48%. When used in combination with vitamin E this effect was even more pronounced! In order to lower cholesterol, and especially the dangerous LDL fraction of cholesterol, it may be necessary to use one of the soy supplements. One study showed soy protein powder lowered cholesterol levels in monkeys, but not soy isoflavones by themselves. Caution: Soy extracts have become very popular in the last few years as an adjuvant (assisting) cancer therapy. Treating cancer, however, is not simple, and some cancer patients are less likely to benefit from soy, while others should not use it at all. Those considering soy extract supplementation should remember that while it does have anticancer benefits that may work synergistically with other conventional and alternative cancer therapies, soy is not a cancer cure. Please refer to the Foundation’s Cancer Treatment protocols before using Ultra Soy Extract as an adjuvant cancer therapy. Two 135-mg capsules of Mega Soy Extract provide more than twice the amount of active soy flavones typically consumed daily in Japan, where breast and prostate cancer incidence is low. Menopausal symptoms and the occurrence of osteoporosis are also reduced among those who consume soy. One study showed that soy isoflavones promote an anabolic effect on bone tissue in post-menopausal women by binding to the estrogen receptor sites in the bone. 2 capsules provide: Soybean powdered extract 270 mg Standardized to supply isoflavones 111 mg Genistein and its precursor isoform genistin 51.6 mg Daidzein and its precursor isoform daidzin 50 mg Glycitein and its precursor isoform glycitin 9.4 mg Other ingredients: gelatin and water. Dosage and use One capsule twice daily is suggested for general disease prevention purposes. Two to three capsules twice daily are suggested for those seeking to use soy extract for its phytoestrogenic effects. Those wishing to use this higher strength Mega Soy Extract as an adjuvant cancer therapy should first refer to the Foundation’s Cancer Treatment protocols. This product is most effectively utilized when taken with meals. Warning: These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
