Chromium is an essential trace mineral that is necessary for carbohydrate metabolism, glucose regulation, and energy production. Chromium can also produce anabolic effects, but without side effects. Chromium is a critical micronutrient now widely recognized to play a vital role in maintaining healthy blood sugar levels in those already within normal range when used as part of a healthy diet.1-3 Age-related reductions in chromium measured in 51,665 hair, sweat, and serum samples obtained from 40,872 patients indicate the possible benefits of increased chromium intake to help promote a healthy cardiovascular system and maintain normal blood sugar levels in those already within normal range.4 In addition, supplemental chromium has been shown to promote a healthy cardiovascular system.5-9 In response to evidence that people may benefit from higher doses of chromium, Chromium Ultra provides 500 mcg of chromium along with 60 mg of flush-free niacin in just one capsule. To provide full-spectrum benefits, antioxidants and gene-protecting nutrients like curcumin, resveratrol, and green tea have been included.10,11 A recent study suggested that chromium, together with vitamins C and E, is effective for minimization of oxidative stress and improvement of glucose metabolism for those within normal range.12 Along with regular exercise, 400-600 mcg of chromium polynicotinate has been shown to support healthy weight control in overweight women.13.14 Supplement to be taken in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise program. Results may vary. Chromium Ultra now contains Crominex® 3+ chromium stabilized with Capros® standardized Phyllanthus emblica extract and PrimaVie® purified and standardized Shilajit.
