Life Extension is an organization with a track record of not backing down on positions that are believe to be scientifically supported. The Life Extension Foundation (LEF) contends that to achieve the best possible benefits from dietary supplements, sufficient potencies of active ingredients must be taken on a daily basis. When the first version of Life Extension Mix was formulated in 1983, some people balked at having to take nine tablets per day to obtain the recommended daily dose. Up until recently, LEF refused to waiver on the position that nine tablets are required to accommodate the nutrients needed for optimal disease protection.

While most Foundation members use Life Extension Mix, many people won't take nine tablets per day, even though their lives may depend on it. This has frustrated Life Extension members because they want to recommend a one-per-day supplement that will supply some degree of disease risk reduction to those they care for.

Obtaining partial protection in one tablet

There are studies showing that low potency supplements do not provide disease risk reduction benefits.1 On the flip side are nutrients like folic acid for which reductions in certain disease risks occur in any amount taken in supplemental form.2 The same holds true for micronutrients like zinc , for which mortality reductions occur in those consuming relatively small amounts from supplements.3,4

So if a person is only willing to take one supplement per day, there is at least a basis for asserting that there will be some benefit compared to taking nothing. In response to requests for a scientifically based one-per-day tablet, Life Extension Buyers' Club has compounded a formula that provides the greatest potencies of nutrients that can fit into one tablet. The primary objective in introducing this formula is to enable Life Extension members to recommend a supplement that their friends and family will take on a daily basis. Those members who take most of the ingredients in Life Extension Mix individually may also use this supplement to conveniently fill in the missing gaps.

The Life Extension One-Per-Day Tablet is designed for people who are not willing to take high-potency supplements such as the multi-ingredient Life Extension Mix formula. It provides adequate amounts of nutrients to statistically reduced one's risk of contracting certain degenerative diseases. Compared to popular "one-a-day" supplements like Centrum®, it contains far higher potencies.
